Honestly, some of the points you raise were things I thought about while writing the story. You should have seen Bishop Carmichael in the original concept – he was positively frightening!

Your points about aftercare, and the fade to black are duly noted. I do try to make an effort to show that there is a huge difference between BDSM and an abusive relationship, but in this story I wanted to go for a slightly darker, edgier feel, and that’s why I didn’t write some of the more caring elements I would normally include.

I like your comment about appreciating some vanilla in your coffee Perhaps I’m a little too focused on the kinky side of things – maybe I’ll add a splash of vanilla to the next instalment.

I also liked the hints of the larger backstory of the Order. I was actually thinking that if the Order functioned as an actual religious order and not just a venue for scorchingly hot sex, they’d have to have support from higher up. (I also wonder if there’s a single-sex version, or if that’s a little too close to real world stuff.) Bishop Carmichel was not at all what I expected; I didn’t like him in the beginning and frankly, I still don’t (he pings my “abusive authority figure” in a way that none of the other male characters in the series have) but I thought it was a bold writing choice to introduce a character who wasn’t necessarily likeable and to see how Jenny’s interactions with him taught her that being submissive doesn’t mean you can’t take an active role in seeking your own pleasure.

In the shorter pieces you’ve done that I keep bookmarked on my Kindle, there’s always some acknowledgement of aftercare. Melody, Michelle, Stacy and Jasmine all got to have their Masters clean them up and praise them and take care of them, and if it’s not detailed, well, it’s porn. I was hoping that with a longer story in an ongoing series, you’d have more space to show that aspect of BDSM. I also just wanted to find out more: what about Jenny as a novice drew Sinclair to her, so much so that he broke all the rules he’d set for himself? Why did he try to stay away from her, and what changed his mind? I was hoping to see their relationship deepen to match the hints that Father McAdams dropped, and for Jenny to get to see that the dom/sub relationship isn’t one-sided.

Unfortunately, being so invested in the characters meant that I was a little disappointed by the fade-to-black interactions between Jenny and Father Sinclair. The surprise Jenny got when she walked into the office was masterfully (yeah, yeah) done–as a reader I felt almost as shocked as I imagined she was–but I was expecting details about what happened after the Bishop left. It was jarring to have it glossed over, especially since that was the first time Jenny’d ever had anyone make love to her in that way. I felt like the intense experience with the Bishop and his donors bordered on hurt, with no comfort. If I could make one wish for the next part of the series, it would be a chance to see more of Jenny and Sinclair–and Brother Francis & Co–having some hot, kinky, fully consensual sex. Sure, I’m here for the kink and the gangbangs, but a little vanilla in with my dark mocha adds flavor and enhances the overall taste.

Whew! I apologize for making that so long, and I hope I don’t come across as an overly-entitled reader. As I said in the beginning, I love your work in general and this series in particular, enough so that I think about it long after I’ve turned the Hitachi off.
